Counselling Practice
My practice is confidential. Confidentiality covers both the content of counselling sessions and any information that could identify who you are. I do not share information about you or your identity with anyone.
If you come to counselling with me, I will collect contact information, usually phone and email, only for the purpose of arranging sessions and letting you know if there is a problem that affects your counselling. Contact information is kept on password protected devices which only I have access to. I keep this inforrmation for a short time after the end of therapy in case there is a reason to contact you again, then it is deleted.
During counselling I keep notes to help with my memory. These are non-clinical, for my use only and are anonymous. I keep them on paper (still using paper!) in a secure place. These are kept for 3 years after the end of therapy in line with UKCP’s complaints policy, then destroyed by shredding.
I have a supervisor and discuss my work with that supervisor. All such discussions are anonymised so that my supervisor does not know your identity. This is standard practice and means that my work is overseen by a professional yet maintains your right to confidentiality.
